In past years, we took our children on a city trip during the summer holidays. Given the exceptional situation in which the world finds itself, we have gone for a different kind of vacation. In fact we have booked close to home a beach house in Julianadorp Aan Zee, North Holland, The Netherlands.

On the way to our final destination we stopped for a picnic and visited the Louwman Museum. The Museum gives a comprehensive overview of what the automobile industry has produced since 1887, with over 275 historic and classic motor cars on display.

On the beach there are 90 holiday houses and the water almost comes up to your door. The beach feels like your own garden. From your deck chair you can look out over the warm sand and the calm sea.

Granted, sometimes there are strange birds walking on the beach…

We were very lucky with the weather during our stay. Every day about 30°C and not a drop of rain. So Mona & Daan were already on the beach and in the sea from early in the morning.

We never had the feeling that it was crowded. But maybe a top tip is to book a beach house in the middle, if possible, since no additional beach visitors will come this far.

We didn’t get our kids out of the sea and into bed before sunset…

and even then…

but who can blame them with these beautiful colors every evening again.

And as always, such holidays are way too short.

On the way back home we stopped in Scheveningen, to get something to eat and visit the pier. The weather gods knew we had to go home as today is a grey day.

For the last 2  years I have used Capture One to edit my Fujifilm RAW files. But these photos have all been edited in Adobe Lightroom as a test with the free Ultramax 400 preset by Tom Humble.
